Three emblematic cultural spaces in Sant Josep de sa Talaia, dedicated to exhibiting photography

30 SEPTEMBER 2024

One of the essential and open elements of the 'Sant Josep és Foto' festival will be the photography exhibitions that will occupy three emblematic spaces in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia: the Caló de s'Oli Auditorium, the Can Jeroni Culture Centre and the Can Curt exhibition hall .

Each of these locations has been chosen for its special characteristics to showcase the work of talented photographers. The images on display will be brought especially for the occasion, with the aim of offering fans a visual journey that will lead them through impressive landscapes and haunting portraits, capable of telling stories with just a glance.

An artistic circuit that will not be exclusively dedicated to experts and long-standing amateurs, but also to art lovers in general, who enjoy looking at the world through the different lens of photography artists.

s’Oli Auditorium , opened in 2021, is one of the island’s emblematic public spaces and is located next to the sea, in the town of Cala de Bou. It is a building of contemporary architecture, shaped like a horseshoe and with a metallic skin the colour of the sunset, symbolising the reflection of what happens daily on its horizon. It is the work of the architect José Antonio Ruiz Jiménez and has an open-air amphitheatre with capacity for 300 people, with a stage with the sea as a backdrop. Inside, there is an auditorium for 240 spectators, equipped with the necessary technical equipment to offer musical shows, dance, theatre and film screenings, and a large hall with an exhibition room, with glass walls that also open to the landscape.

The Can Jeroni Cultural Centre occupies the old cinema in the town of Sant Josep, now transformed into a modern auditorium with a capacity for 165 spectators, and an old adjoining house that serves as a unique two-storey exhibition hall. The old Can Jeroni cinema was built in the 1950s and screened films until the end of the 1970s. It was also used as a theatre and occasionally hosted school functions and many other cultural events. In 2000 it was acquired by the Sant Josep Town Council, which first restored the adjoining house, opening it as a space dedicated to plastic arts in 2007, and in 2014 refurbished the old cinema, turning it into an auditorium equipped with all the technical means.

Curt exhibition hall , for its part, awaits you in the heart of Sant Agustí, one of the most idyllic and best-preserved villages on the island, with country houses, a whitewashed church, an emblematic defence tower and a rural setting that offers attractive views, thanks to the elevated position of the square and its surroundings. Can Curt is one of the traditional houses in the village, converted into a unique exhibition space, where the most avant-garde photography contrasts with its whitewashed and ancient walls.
