About Pepe Cañabate
Pepe Cañabate (Palma de Mallorca, 1952) is a self-taught photographer based in Palma, known for his mastery in the art of black and white photography. His specialization in this style led him to set up his own professional laboratory, a space where he perfected every detail of development. With the arrival of the digital era, Pepe adapted without losing his essence, and today he combines his experience in post-production, printing and digital editing to create images that retain the same depth of his analog work.
His passion for photography goes beyond the commercial and remains faithful to his style, oblivious to passing fads. In each work, Pepe is present from the first click to the final assembly, in a careful and detailed creative process that turns each piece into a complete and personal work, made to be appreciated in its entirety.
Throughout his career, Pepe Cañabate has presented his work in multiple solo and group exhibitions, both in galleries in Spain and in Europe and the United States. From his first exhibitions in the 1980s, with displays in spaces such as Factory in Palma and the Bernard Gallery in Germany, to more recent shows such as “NIGHTPOL” at igallery (2022), his work has captured the attention and appreciation of a wide and diverse audience. He has participated in prestigious group exhibitions, such as PhotoEspaña and the “Chania International Photo Festival” in Greece, standing out both on the local and international scene.
His awards and recognitions reflect his commitment to quality photography. Among his awards, he has received multiple honorable mentions at the Lucie Awards in Los Angeles, as well as being a finalist and winner in competitions such as the Ciutat de Palma and the Tokyo International Foto Awards. These achievements consolidate his prestige, highlighting him not only for his technical skill but also for his ability to create images that explore both aesthetics and emotion.
About Juanjo Alfonso:
Juanjo Alfonso (Palma, 1969). Documentary and portrait photographer, with more than 30 years of experience combining photography with teaching. Specialized in image and sound, he has worked as a photojournalist in local media and has collaborated in national magazines.
For him, photography is a way of connecting with people and the environment, whether in the city or anywhere in the world. Through portraiture and documentary language, his goal is to tell stories. People are the driving force of his work, which inspires him to create, travel and learn through his camera.
