Sant Josep de sa Talaia will host a spectacular first edition of the 'Sant Josep és Foto' festival, in April 2025
12 SEPTEMBER 2024
Starting next year, April will become the month of photography in Ibiza. The municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, the largest and most diverse, both geographically and culturally, will host the first edition of the 'Sant Josep és Foto' festival, with a wide and ambitious programme of events that will have its epicentre in the Caló de s'Oli Auditorium . This emblematic cultural venue stands out for its coastal location, as it is literally right next to the sea, and for its spectacular avant-garde architecture.
The event’s main focus will be on the 11th and 13th of April, when the ‘Sant Josep és Foto’ photography congress will take place. Over the course of these three days, from Friday to Sunday, participants, both residents and those from outside the island, will immerse themselves in the fascinating world of photography, guided by experts of national and international renown, whose identities will be revealed in the near future.
The mornings will start with photographic tours of some of the most emblematic corners of Sant Josep, where you can capture the essence of the Mediterranean in all its splendor. It should be remembered that this municipality is dotted with hidden coves, immense white sand beaches, breathtaking cliffs, sunrises and sunsets saturated with color, and that, in addition, it is surrounded by a sea of islets that give great spectacularity to the photographs, such as es Vedrà , sa Conillera , s’Illa des Bosc , s’Espartar and ses Bledes. It also includes a Natural Park with 2,500-year-old salt flats, a Phoenician village declared a World Heritage Site, defence towers, charming villages, whitewashed churches and emblematic white rural architecture, whose brilliance stands out among crops and pine forests.
The afternoons of this weekend will be reserved for finding inspiration through presentations and screenings, which aim to open the minds of participants to find new ways of seeing and photographing the world. Each session will be a master class and an injection of creativity that will push you to run out, camera in hand.
And as no festival is complete without a good challenge, entrants will also have the opportunity to take part in a photography competition where the best images will win a prize. The final day will end with a closing party as the grand finale, where the best of photography, local gastronomy and live music will be celebrated.
Exhibitions and parallel activities
In addition to the weekend dedicated to the Photography Days, Sant Josep és Foto offers a programme of parallel activities throughout the month, which both registered participants and the general public of the island can enjoy.
An essential part of this proposal will be the different photography exhibitions that will take place in the three main exhibition venues in the municipality: The Can Jeroni Cultural Centre, in Sant Josep; the Can Curt venue , in Sant Agustí, and the exhibition hall of the Caló de s’Oli Auditorium , in Cala de Bou. Each of these locations has been chosen for its uniqueness to exhibit the works of talented photographers, who will be brought to the island especially for the occasion and will remain on display throughout the month.
In addition, on Sunday, April 27, there will be a celebration the 1st ‘Sant Josep és Foto’ Photography Marathon, a challenge full of surprises that will take participants through the most emblematic corners of the municipality, having to overcome different photographic tests that will test the artistic eye of each participant.
An adventure that is also open to all those who want to take part, whether residents or foreigners, amateurs or professionals. There will be various categories and various prizes up for grabs, so excitement is guaranteed. At the end, the best snapshots will be exhibited in a special exhibition, which will be scheduled later and as a culmination of this first edition.
‘Sant Josep is Photo’ and its creators
The first edition of ‘Sant Josep és Foto’ represents much more than a photography festival. It is the fruit of the passion, effort and enthusiasm of two great enthusiasts of photography and local heritage: Joan F. Ribas and José Juan Gonzálvez , two Ibizan professionals in this fascinating profession, who, driven by their love for images and their deep respect for the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, have set out to transform this corner of the Mediterranean into the epicentre of creative photography.
From the very beginning, they have put all their effort into bringing to life an event that will not only attract photographers from all over, but will also serve as a showcase for the natural and cultural beauty of Sant Josep. Together, they work tirelessly to design a festival that combines training, inspiration and fun, managing to bring together some of the best photographers in the country and a local community that is proud to showcase the best of their land.
